Your Child Is in Great Hands
Philosophy
We follow a play-based philosophy- Playing to learn and learning to play.
Learn N’ Play Care teaches children to think creatively so they may succeed in a complex and ever-changing world. The following emphasizes the importance of play in a child’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. Play is a way of learning for children. During a typical day there will be structured and unstructured periods, enabling children to learn at their own rate. Values that support learning through play include:
-
Children are viewed as thinkers.
-
Purposeful play is when children learn through the process of their efforts.
-
Children are encouraged to make choices and practice individual decision making.
Learn N' Play Care is also based on a love and logic learning behavior management. This means that punishment that is humiliating or frightening to a child such as hitting, spanking, verbal abuse, withholding or forcing food, punishment for accidents in toilet training, or any other form of physical or emotional punishment will NEVER be used, not even at the request of the parent. If and when a child behaves inappropriately, Learn N' Play Care will encourage positive behavior. Depending on the individual child and situation Learn N' Play Care will use redirection and/or offer them choices. Learn N' Play Care teachers attempt to focus their energy on recognizing the positive behavior in all of the children. This helps increase the child’s self-esteem and sets a good example for other children to follow. A big part of the day deals with socializing with our friends. However, concepts such as sharing, taking turns and waiting can be difficult for young children to remember. Teachers interact and observe children as they are playing and socializing and will jump in before serious issues arise. Time-outs are not used here.
Instead, children are shown and encouraged to play with different toys or engage in different activities until the toy/activity they want is free to be used.
